This   campaign is  the  3rd  fund-raising  initiative  of  the  Church  and  the  final push to the finishing line  to  complete  the  mission  of  raising  a total  amount  of  RM 2.5 million. The campaign with  a new theme “ Reach Out To A Friend ,Give Our Church A Helping Hand” would primarily focus on reaching out to people globally via the social media i.e. Facebook, Tweeter, WeChat, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. Launched on Sunday,18/07/2015, the goal of the campaign is to raise another  RM 750,000 for the building construction cost and furnishing.

 

Description

 

The Church of St. Anthony Teluk intan’s  Fund-raising Campaign was first initiated  in 2011 after a heavy storm damaged several roof structures of the parish buildings. Prior to this incident, this 120-year old historic church  has been ravished by time with severe termite infestation. Barely with any resources in hand  to re-build the Church, the parishioners embarked on an ambitious  fund-raising “journey” on 5th June, 2011 to raise  RM 2 million ; which was the cost to re-build all the damaged parish buildings.

The challenge to raise RM 2 million was definitely an uphill task for this relatively small parish, who are mostly from the lower middle income group. However, guided by the Spirit of the Lord, our devoted  parishioners have taken many initiatives to raise the much-needed fund to re-build the church. They started with very little things such as Charity Brick Sale, Sunday Charity Breakfast and Charity Car Wash among our parishioners. As we created awareness of our plight, we had also generous donations from the Government and the general public. By end of 2013, with these baby steps forward, we were able to raise RM 488 619.98 .

 

But we had a very long way to go in order to reach our goal of raising RM 2 million for the renovation and building project. The gigantic challenge for this small parish community is to race against time to raise the funds in the midst of fast escalating building material costs. Yes, the longer it takes to raise the funds, the further was the damage of the buildings, the greater the safety risk it posed  and the higher the cost of the project!

 

On 3rd May, 2014, the sleepy coastal town of Teluk Intan came alive when we organized a first-ever Charity Gala with a theme “ a Ray of Hope” attended by more than 1,000 donors. With the ever-green band Alleycats as the main performers along with other local artistes, the successful event helped us to raise another  RM 190,000.

 

With individual donations  trickling  in and on-going fund-raising initiatives, we were able reach the RM 1 million mark by end of November, 2014. We are also in the midst of securing a financial support of  another RM 1 million from the Diocese of  Penang. However, by now, compounded by various cost factors including GST, the total project cost has ballooned to  a total cost of RM 2.5 million ; excluding the cost of furnishing the building.

 

The 2015 fund-raising campaign is a culmination of the previous 2 fund-raising campaigns  to raise the final sum  of  RM 750,000 ; which includes the estimated furnishing cost of RM250,000.

This time around, with  a theme “Reach Out To A Friend , Give Our Church A Helping Hand”,  we hope to  reach out to people globally through the Social Media to garner their  support and contributions  for this campaign.
